Learning literature through experience – Preserving the beauty of Vietnamese Culture
In a Grade 7 Literature lesson featuring the informational text “Capture the Flag” (Theme: The Beauty of Vietnamese Culture), students at Lac Hong Bilingual School enjoyed an engaging learning experience through a station-based approach combined with hands-on activities. Beyond reading and understanding the text, students actively thought, discussed, took notes, and presented their learning through a variety of tasks at each learning station.
From exploring the text’s basic information, structure, purpose, and key characteristics to understanding the role of non-verbal elements, students developed reading comprehension skills, teamwork, and critical thinking. Their background knowledge was reinforced and reviewed through an exciting Kahoot game. Notably, the hands-on experience of playing Capture the Flag during the lesson helped students connect textbook knowledge with real-life practice, allowing them to better appreciate the value of traditional folk games, a cultural heritage worth preserving and sharing.
